NLC Demands: Akwa Ibom State Government waves the olive branch
In dread of the consequences of a palpable workers uprising, the Government of Akwa Ibom State on Friday initiated the process of negotiations with the State’s Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress over grievances contained in the Ultimatum issued by the Congress on October 26, 2020.
The State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy conveyed Government’s position in a press release issued yesterday. The release indicated the readiness of the Government to dialogue with the NLC towards resolving the “13-points demands of the NLC” within 30days. Consequently, Government has set up a Negotiation Committee headed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Akparawa Ephraim A. Inyangeyen and made up of representatives of both the Government and the NLC.
The Government’s “peace offering” coming few days to the end of the 14days Ultimatum is a clear indication that the Government can be made to listen to and address the problems of the citizenry through popular agitation and citizens’ pressure.
The #AkwaIbomWorkersArise and #EndSalaryConsultant Campaigns wish to thank all citizens who joined and showed commitment to the cause of Akwa Ibom State workers and pensioners and call on the Government to be more responsive to the yearnings of the people.
The statutory organs of the NLC shall meet to review the development and further actions.
