Agriculture: Dr. Offiong Offor to prioritize food sufficiency in Akwa Ibom
The new commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Mrs. Offiong Offor has officially interacted with the Directors, Zonal Directors, AKADEP Directors and Heads of Units in the Ministry.
Addressing the Management Staff today, Wednesday, 30th March, 2022 at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Dr. Offor appreciated God and Governor Udom Emmanuel for the privilege to serve.
She noted that the strength of every building is in its foundation, therefore Management and the entire Staff remains the foundation upon which the Ministry will excel in its various activities.
While acknowledging the efforts of Management and Staff in the Ministry that led to the establishment of laudable projects within the tenure of her predecessor, Dr. Glory Edet, the new Commissioner solicited commensurate team work and cooperation to attain an enviable height.
“The Ministry of Agriculture is one indivisible and united family. We will work together as a team, united irrespective of our differences, we will still work together, since no one is a custodian of all knowledge, she stated”.
The University Don who likened the Ministry to a football team said, every member of the team works together to actualise the desired goals and admonished members of staff to continue to carry out their assigned responsibilities for the ministry to achieve more.
The commissioner commended Governor Udom’s passion for Agriculture and urged all to support the actualization of food sufficiency and the accomplishment of the completion agenda of this administration.
“I am familiar with many faces here, while working on different projects. This team is a great one and I trust that we will work together, learning from one another to ensure that Ministry of Agriculture maintains its high flying status, she added”.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Mary Ukoette Bassey while welcoming Dr. Offor, said the Ministry is fortunate to have the only woman in the fold of the newly appointed commissioners after the resignation of the erstwhile commissioner, Dr. Glory Edet who is vying for an elective post.
Mrs. Bassey revealed that, the Commissioner resumed on Monday 28th March, 2022, and has thought it wise to officially interact with Management and Senior Staff in the Ministry today, adding that she is hardworking, dedicated and an outstanding scholar.
She stated the commitment of the entire staff to cooperate with the incoming commissioner to record more successes in the Ministry.
In their separate responses Director of Administration, Mr. Ifiok Udo, Program Manager AKADEP, Mr. Emah Ekanem and Chairman of Zonal Directors, Dr. Emmanuel Iton appreciated the Commissioner for her prompt resumption to have an interactive sesson with staff, saying they are convinced that the new commissioner will also perform very well.
On behalf of the staff, they declared their unalloyed loyalty and support to the commissioner’s success.
The event featured a welcome song for the new Agriculture boss and introduction of Management Staff.
Present at the meeting were Director Veterinary Services, Dr. Obot Obot, Director Animal Husbandry, Mr. Aniefiok Isong, Director Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Joe, Director PRS, Mr. Edet Udoakah, Director Account, Mrs. Mary Eyo among others.
