Aniekan Akpan: PDP is on rescue mission to rebuild Nigeria in 2023
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has restated its commitment to rescue and rebuild Nigeria from total collapse. The Akwa Ibom State PDP Chairman, Elder Aniekan Simon Akpan made the party’s position known on Tuesday during a meeting with party registration agents at the Party Secretary, Uyo. He likened the sorry state of the nation to a ship that has been wrecked and is in dire need of urgent rescue.
He explained that the mission is going to be accomplished through the ballot and charged all party members to register so that they can contribute their quota in the rescue mission. The Party Chairman emphasized that the rescue operation starts with registration of members who would use their votes to achieve the goal. He commended the registration agents, whom he described as major stakeholders, for their tremendous sacrifices, giving an assurance that all technical and logistic challenges they may encounter would be addressed to smoothen the exercise, saying that all hands must be on deck for this important assignment.
He thanked the agents for the sacrifices they have made so far and appealed to them to do more for the party’s mission to be realized. The Chairman assured them that he would reach out to assembly members, government appointees and other stakeholders to return to the grassroots and work towards the success of the exercise.
He maintained that there is no other party in the state, that “PDP is Akwa Ibom and Akwa Ibom is PDP”, adding that returnees from what is left of fragmented political parties in the state are coming back to the umbrella family and advised that they should be properly registered by the agents. He reiterated the commitment of the party to reward the registration agents who have laboured for the success of the party. He described PDP as a well-organized party that had planned and executed a national convention which attracted a global acclaim as one of the best in recent years. The State Party Chairman disclosed that the newly-elected members of the National Working Committee would be inaugurated in Abuja next week.
The Party Chairman decried the proposed removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government amidst the untold hardship the citizens are passing through. He called for collective will of the party’s members through their vote to cast off the bondage.
Recall that last week the party had organized a retreat with the theme: “It’s time to rescue and rebuild Nigeria”
