VOODOO: Akwa Ibom Priest allegedly administers Oath of secrecy to pastors
The last is yet to be heard in the country on the battle of supremacy by candidates vying for one position or the other in the 2023 elections.
While political parties and their supporters are locked in war of words, as we have seen played out between major political gladiators of late. Most notable are the Bola Ahmed Tinubu of APC with his many unthinkable gaffes that have become the toast of skit makers, the Peter Obi’s “we no dey give shi shi” comic reliefs and the accusations and counter accusations on corruption allegations levelled against Atiku Abubakar of PDP by APC campaign council and vice versa.
However, there are yet others in the 2023 elections preparations who employ spiritual methods through prayers , while others stoop low for outright voodooism in a make or mar war to woo supporters to their candidates, secure their loyalty and votes during the presidential and governorship elections in February and March this year.
The neighbouring state of Akwa Ibom is not left out of this electioneering mad rush conundrums. Our correspondent has obtained a scary information on how a popular priest and a former CAN Chairman of the state, Primate Cletus Bassey allegedly administered secret oaths of allegiance to pastors in a broad daylight inside his church, located at a government reservation areas (GRA), Ewet Housing Estate in Uyo.
Primate Cletus Bassey, our source gathered through aides of some political office seekers who were at the meeting, that he wanted to be sure the pastors he was bankrolling through the finances handed him by his choice candidate, a serving senator popularly known as OBA in the state, was in safe hands. And to avoid doling money to pastors who will not stand by him to deliver votes to the senator, the Primate resorted to administration of oaths to the outer shock of the audience.
It was gathered that after Obong Bassey Albert popularly known as OBA who is his choice candidate walked into the church with his team and assured the pastors he has given enough money to the primate meant to woo supporters, against the ruling PDP’s candidate, the man of God requested for a big sacred book, placed it on an altar and ordered the pastors present to take turns to swear with it for secrecy and allegiance.
Our Sources who are members of the Church confirmed that the pastors who never expected such strange turn in their meeting, began to mumble while others filed out to show their total allegiance by taking the oath. “While most of them grumbled in muted tongues, none revolted for fear of being suspected of sabotaging the plan or being handed over to the security personnel at the meeting,” he revealed.
The source who pleased anonymity told our correspondent that the primate was before now a voodoo practitioner before abandoning the art to open his church.
According to the source while in the art of voodooism in his hometown near the capital city, Uyo, he was ingenious in the art of rainmaking and could command natural other elements like thunder, lightening flashes to show his signs and wonders prowess – the magical art he inherited from his forbears.
The sources further revealed that the man of God was angry with the state governor, Udom Emmanuel for not consulting him before naming his anointed successor, Pastor Umo Eno in January 2022.
Primate Bassey, we gathered had introduced earlier prevailed on the Governor to accept senator Bassey Albert as his preferred successor but the governor turned it down.
Several attempts by our correspondent to reach out to the primate for comment was unsuccessful.
