A team of 233 cyclers are set to participate in the Orange 33 Tour organised by an Uyo based tourism group under the aegies of Uyo Fitness Cyclers (UFC) to mark the Akwa Ibom State 33 Anniversary celebration.
A statement signed by the UFC Tour Director, Mr Thomas Etuk and sighted by Morenews noted that the event is organised to promote tourism, health and wellness of members as well as showcasing the beauty of Akwa Ibom State to the world.
The release added that participating cyclers will be well kitted in orange jersey and will tour major streets in the capital city covering a distance of about 33 kilometres, terminating at the Godswil Akpabio International Stadium with stop overs at designated landmarks for stunt displays.
Etuk also posited that the group’s main focus is cycling tourism to consolidate Akwa Ibom State as a tourist destination and open up frontiers of wealth creation and poverty alleviation for the people.
He noted that government has created the enabling environment for tourism to thrive in the state and therefore the group desire to utilise these openings.
“We have the best of roads, our towns are safe, the skyline is beautiful, and Ibom Air is reliable. What else do we need for tourism? We have the best of meals and everyone look forward to Akwa Ibom food.
“For the above reasons, we have designed ORANGE 33 TOUR, an Akwa Ibom State Anniversary Cycling event to activate a different kind of feeling in the State.
“This event is our private initiative and it takes into full consideration the World Health Organization (WHO) Safety protocols on COVID 19, as cycling is a non-contact activity.
“We are taking the anniversary celebration to the people in their streets where they can celebrate from their front porch and streets.
“The idea is for the people of Akwa Ibom State to relish the atmosphere of the State Anniversary even when they cannot troop out to the Stadium to celebrate.
Etuk also noted that umented, edited and broadcasted on every available channel and added that the routes will be colourfully decorated with temporary road markings.
“We have contacted relevant government agencies for assistance because we shall be using government infrastructure.
“As the name implies, this innovative tourism event is designed to showcase the beauty of Akwa Ibom State, highlighting the beautiful road network, other architectural masterpiece dotting our landscape and also articulating the status of Akwa Ibom as the safest, cleanest and most beautiful State in Nigeria,” he noted.

“We are putting adequate safety and security measures to ensure a hitch-free tour.
We also call corporate organisations and citizens to come up and identify with this novel experience by sponsorship.”
