As Professor Florence Obi emerges substantive Vice Chancellor
The Governing Council of the University of Calabar has declared Professor Florence Banku Obi as the 11th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Professor Obi has emerged as the first female Vice Chancellor of the institution and one of the few female Vice-Chancellors in Nigeria.
She contested against 13 other aspirants for the position. Some of the other top contenders who were also screened at the UNICAL Hotel Conference center, venue of the exercise included Professor Joseph Asor, Professor Offiong E. Offiong and Professor Andem Ayara among others.
She was the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the university and had also served as the Professor of Special Needs Education for 13 years.
Professor Obi is believed to have the capacity and the capability to pilot the affairs of University of Calabar as she will takeover the mantle of leadership.
She served as the Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs, and Social Development and member of the Cross River State Executive Council in 2007.
Obi will take over from Professor Zana Akpagu, whose tenure ends on November 30, 2020.
