Umo Eno’s waste management blueprint in tune with world’s best practice – Prince Ikim
The waste management plan of the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has been described as one that meets world’s best standard.
Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Hon. Prince Ikim, stated this, Wednesday, when he appeared as guest on Peace Voice, a programme sponsored by the Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) on Inspiration 105.9, Uyo.
Ikim, while fielding questions from host of the programme, Mr Ekomobong Peter, hailed pastor Eno for looking beyond mere evacuation and dumping of wastes at dump sites, but also considering generating revenue with waste.
“Let me tell you this. I had an opportunity of sitting with him over a discussion about waste. What he brought up was same thing as what we had in our blueprint. You know, when a man goes beyond telling you about evacuation and dumping of wastes at dump sites and go further to tell you that he is passionate about waste recycling and about Governor Udom Emmanuel’s environmental sustainability, then you know he has so many things upstairs.
“He talked about waste as energy, he talked about waste as fertiliser; he talked about how we can process the wastes and market it. He talked about how we can generate power from waste and distribute to local companies. When I finished with him, I knew that this is a man who knows what to do,” he said.
While noting that the issue of environment affects everyone, Prince Ikim said that he was more comfortable with a man who is willing to sustain the environment as Governor in 2023.
The waste management boss who said that the criticism of the agency by social media users only propel him to work harder, warned that even though the people have the right to criticise, they should first be sure that their claims on social media are true.
Prince Ikim while saying he was shocked to go for a Ward meeting in his Abak Midim 1V, Ward 11 in Oruk Anam Local Government Area , recently, only to be made political leader of the Ward, advised political gladiators and supporters to go back to their wards and units for familiarisation and sensitisation as elections are not won on social media.
