TOPREC Inducts 15 new members in Uyo
The Town Planner Registration Council of Nigeria, Uyo has indicated fresh new members who have qualified and passed through series of examinations.
The induction ceremony took place on Tuesday, 24th August, 2021 at the NITP Secretariat, Uyo.
The national event also took place simultaneously in eight centres across the federation, including Adamawa, Kaduna, Enugu, Asaba, Ibadan, Lagos, FCT and Uyo.
The president of the Town Planner Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC) TPL. Isyaku M. Kura advised the new inducted members to use every opportunity they have to show professionalism in their different assignments.
TPl Kura speaking on the occasion of their 34th ceremony and Awards of 296 newly registered members of the body.
The president, TPL Isyaku Kura who was represented by the Akwa Ibom state Chairman of the council, TPL Akpabio Ufot Akpabio congratulate the new inductees and admit that they have passed through series of examination and fully qualified to join the council.
He urged them to protect the image of the profession by abiding to the rules and regulations of the council.
According to him “Today marks another milestone as 296 members are being inducted in eight centres across the country. As a matter be of principle you all must ensure strict adherence to ethnical standard, You must pay your dues to TOPREC.
“And if you must be relevant, you have to constantly improve on your skills and attend special courses. This way, you will be favourably disposed to competing with your peers anywhere in the country and globally.”
Also speaking during the event in Uyo, where inductees from Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States were inducted, TPL (Dr) Emmamuel Etuk congratulated the new members on their great feat and encouraged them to step into the field and do exploits as their years of waiting was over.
Delivering a lecture on the title, “The Prospect of Young Planners in Emerging Economy”, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Timothy T. Gyuse espoused the four challenges of young planners to include technology, drowning in an information flood, protectionism and relevance.
Timothy Gyuse who teaches at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the Nasarawa State University, called on the new inductees to maintain positive attitude; be proactive in learning; adapt and improvise where necessary, as there were many opportunities in regional and urban management.
Prof. Gyuse added that Town Planners can analyze their areas of competence, seek coorpration and partner government to give the human habitation a better living environment.
In his goodwill message, His Highness Obong TPL (Dr.) Ekpoimo Udom, Obon Ubium, the Village Head of Ikot Ibanga, Nsit Ubium LGA reminded the inductees of the maxim that charity begins at home.
Dr Udom who charged them to start the Town Planning from their villages by handing over the masterplan of their communities to their village heads, advised them to be “selective on specific areas of their competence so as not to become jack of all trade and master of none.”
The event was also attended by representatives of the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Hon. Umo Eno; Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong and the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Amiengeme, who in their goodwill messages, congratulated them and wished them well in their future endeavours.
