Students with disabilities commend Pastor Umo Eno over humanitarian gestures
University of Uyo Students with disabilities, under the umbrella of National Association of Students with Disabilities, (NASWID), have extolled the humanitarian disposition of the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno.
The students expressed their gratitude and satisfaction with the Commissioner at a luncheon held at Signature by Royalty Hotels, Uyo, where the Commissioner redeemed his pledge to pay school fees for the physically challenged students who are in good academic standing in their different classes and departments.
In his remarks, the President of the association, Comrade Ikpe Ubong Imo noted that the Honourable Commissioner has rescued them from deferring admission for the semester due to lack of fees.
The President said the gesture by Pastor Umo Eno was unprecedented in the association, stressing that the students with disabilities have never enjoyed such sense of belonging as shown them by the Commissioner.
While Calling on other well placed and spirited members of the public to also assist the students with disabilities, he prayed that God will continue to bless and elevate Pastor Umo Eno for more blessings to them and the State in general.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Students Union Government President, Comrade Wisdom Emmanuel said Pastor Umo Eno is a rare breed of politician who prioritises welfare with uncompromising humility.
He maintained that the gathering was a follow up of an earlier meeting where the Commissioner had blessed the students with numerous aiding facilities.
Recall that the Honourable Commissioner had during the said meeting, promised to pay the second semester’s school fees for those with good GPAs to take some weight off them and their parents.
Presenting the cash to them for their school fees, the Commissioner reiterated that he was moved by their courage to acquire university education adding that his gesture was simply to help them have some level of comfort.
Pastor Umo Eno maintained that the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration pays premium to education as well as the welfare of its citizens, adding that his support for the students was in line with the Governor’s development agenda.
He reiterated that his support for them was made possible by Governor Udom who has first empowered him, and had appointed him into his cabinet, stressing that whatever he does was an extension of the Governor’s humane disposition to the welfare of Akwa Ibom people.
Pastor Umo Eno who was moved with compassion when one of the students was introduced as a final year law student, pledged to undertake his basic requirements for Law School.
As a hospitality expert, Pastor Umo Eno also treated the students to a special launch which he personally served.
Other students who also expressed their gratitude including Anietie Udom Akpan, Faith Charles, and Udeme Emmanuel of the Departments of Guidance and Counselling, Early Childhood, and the final year Law student respectively, prayed for God’s protection and promotion on the Commissioner and family.
High point of the event was a music redition by Joe Struggle, a sight impaired student who was last month presented with a computer and recorder to aide his learning.
