Senate 2023: Annang Monarch preaches peace, justice in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District
…Enoidem vows to restore ISD to its pride of place
Itai Afe Annang V, His Royal Majesty, Obong Blessed Udofia Awakama, has declared that the prevailing peace, unity and brotherhood in Annnag land and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District must be sustained through the enthronement of justice, equity and fairness in the forthcoming elections and future endeavours.
The Royal Father stated this when he received members of the Barr Emmanuel Enoidem Senatorial Campaign Organization led by the PDP Candidate for Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, at his Abak residence.
Emphasizing it was time all stakeholders in the district placed the peace, unity and togetherness of the area above self, the Itai Afe Annang made a case for the engendering of a strategic tripartite leadership role from the political, religious and traditional institutions in Annang land towards ensuring that the Senatorial District approach the 2023 Senatorial election in ways that would be devoid of actions aimed at marginalizing any segment of the Senatorial District.
The Royal Father who was a former Registrar of University of Uyo and former Board member, Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, noted that history must serve as a guide as to which direction the generality of the Senatorial District must go so as to reposition Annang land and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District towards sustainable growth and development.
Going down memory lane the monarch said Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency produced Senators Raymond Umoh, Nsima Akpabio, Emmanuel Ibok Essien, Godswill Akpabio and Christopher Ekpeyong, while Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency had Senator Aloysius Etok, while Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency had Senators Donald Etiebet, Akaniyene Ukpanah and Itak Ekarika, but Abak federal Constituency has none since 1960.
He noted that there was need to ensure the politics of inclusiveness and unity in 2023 as Abak federal Constituency should be encouraged to have their shot at the Senate so that the peace of the Constituency is consolidated and thanked Barr Emmanuel Enoidem and his entourage for the visit, commending his giant strides and legacies in public service, and wished him well in his 2023 ambition.
Speaking earlier, the PDP Candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, said there is the need for the leadership of the traditional institution to rise up and provide leadership by standing on the principle of truth, justice, equity and fairness, promising to provide quality representation when elected Senator in 2023.
Barr Enoidem said due to lack of effective legislative representation, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District do not have any federal presence, promising to ensure political visibility for the District in national discourse, attract federal government’s attention and restore the Senatorial District to its pride of place in the country.
