The Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio has commenced the inspection tour of the East-West Road with a visit to the Oron section of the road.
Recall that the president had recently ordered contractors handling the work to return to site and also gave till November 2021 for the project to be completed.
The contract for the East–West road was first awarded in 2006, and scheduled for completion in 2010, but suffered some setbacks because of funding constraints. It was later transferred to the newly created Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in 2008, even at that, the percentage of work done was negligible.
Attempts had also been made in the past to fund the road project through the African Development Bank and the Sure-P Programme but it has remained uncompleted.
According to the Minister, the effort demonstrated so far is because of President Buhari’s avowed determination to complete the East- West road in stipulated time.
