– Vows to protest naked should CCECC refuses to respond.
– Seeks government’s intervention.
Disturbed over the seeming abandonment by the management of a multinational company, CCECC in Uyo, an accident victim, Mr. Kingsley Etim has cried out to Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to use his good office to prevail on CCECC to come to his aid and save his family from imminent starvation.
Kingsley, a truck driver, was badly hit in an accident along Atiku Abubakar way while on duty at a refuse dump site by one CCECC driver who allegedly lost control of the company’s vehicle leading to a near fatal accident which had left the victim completely incapacitated up till now.
The accident which occurred on March 16, 2020 has taken the victim to Premier Medical Services, a hospital situated along Edet Akpan avenue where specialist doctors have banned him from being engaged in any strenuous duty for at least the next four years following the impact created by the accident to some of his sensitive organs.
Kingsley told our reporter in an interview that, although the company has agreed to settle his hospital bills for the four years, it is not forthcoming with money for his up keep as he is currently financially incapacitated following the loss of his job with his former employers as a result of his persistent absence from duty.
He disclosed further that his family of four is badly ravaged by starvation and abject poverty as he has been rendered jobless and useless as the only bread winner.
The victim, who currently wears a pale look and conspicuously tired, said he us presently having a very challenging sight problem as the accident in question has affected his brain and his two eyes.
According to him, the company is not showing any serious concern for his welfare and up keep, recalling that, the last financial contribution it made which was very meagre, took place in March this year, adding that since then the company has not found out how he is feeding.
He disclosed that if all efforts fail to change the company’s attitude towards his plight, he will be left with no option than to protest naked to governor’s office to intimate him with his condition.
“My family and I are now begging to survive, we go to some highly spirited individuals to ask for food. We are also living on the mercy of some concerned church members, who come around to sympathise with me once in a while” , he stressed, warning that it is an exercise in futility if the company feels that payment of medical bills is all they can do for me and my family as this will lead us into starving to death.
“Is it possible for me to continue with medication without food in my stomach? What happens to my family members especially now that doctors have banned me from doing anything in the next four years” ,he queried.
Although a senior staff of the CCECC gave the assurance that the victim will be compensated to be able to cater for himself and his family, there seems to be no serious commitment from the company as every blame is heaped on the white managers who are currently unavoidably hiding away from the COVID-19 pandemic leaving their offices only to the blacks who also, are not ready to risk their own lives.
