The Publicity Secretary of the Committee, Elder Manasseh Umoette who spoke on behalf of the committee stated this while exchanging views with newsmen shortly after a routine monitoring exercise on the trainees.
According to Umoette , RacYes programme, inaugurated by Sir John Cleton Etim on 15th February, 2024 was designed to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on Goals 1, 2, 8, and 10, which emphasize eradicating poverty, ending hunger, promoting decent work and economic growth, and reducing income inequality.
He noted with excitement that some beneficiaries have completed their training and are already making progress in their respective trades. Others who are still undergoing training are also showing promising signs of development.
Umoette also noted that the programme’s curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on experience to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the skill set.
According to the committee , “expert trainers were engaged for each domain to provide specialized guidance and mentorship to the beneficiaries in areas such as tailoring, metal welding and fabrication, automobile technology, hairdressing and makeover, crane operation, aluminum work, patent medicine, baking and pastry making, barbering, tiling, shoe making, decorations, and cosmetics”.
Elder Manasseh Umoette reiterates that it is Sir John Etim’s desire to see the Raffia City Youths engage in crafts that will help reduce poverty, hunger, crime rate and above all create employment opportunities. He noted that the committee as well as the indigenes and residents of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area are pleased with the success recorded so far.
