A sinister plot to blackmail the Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor, Obong Moses Ekpo, out of office has been hatched.
Morenews authoritatively gathered that the sinister plot, which thickens on daily basis, may soon consume the this son of Otoro Abak before he celebrates his 79th birthday this December, unless his kinsmen pressurize Governor Udom Emmanuel to throw a monkey wrench in the works.
Obong Moses Ekpo has been Away On Leave without permission since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Akwa Ibom, a situation that has raised serious concerns and questions about the state of his heath.
The Akwa Ibom deputy governor has almost disappeared in public functions in recent times as even media reports attributed to him rarely used his recent photographs, forcing Facebook users to raise the question: “Where is Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor?”
Political schemers are apparently capitalizing on the situation to seek the head of the number two citizen of Akwa Ibom State even as they claimed that Obong Moses Ekpo is struggling to cope with the rigours of public office and his advancing age which they insist is no longer friendly with him.
Morenews investigation revealed that the plot has reached advanced stage. What appeared to delay its implementation is how best to launch it without roping the governor in and without attracting the wrath of Annang Nation, particularly the Abak Five.
A source in Hilltop Mansion confided in Morenews that the plotters have been weighing the possibility of creating crisis in the polity with a view to instigating impeachment move against the Akwa Ibom deputy governor by sending him an open blackmail.
Part of the blackmail, Morenews learnt, is to sponsor rumour that the deputy governor has contacted coronavirus and trend same in the social media, claiming that he has been under isolation and on medication all this while.
The antic is aimed at forcing Obong Moses Ekpo out of hiding to prove his fitness and agility only to throw up another blackmail that he has been collapsing in public functions and as such unfit to continue serving as Akwa Ibom deputy governor.
The move is particularly sponsored by those who do not want to see Mr. Udoh Ekpenyong as the next state chairman of the PDP, having schemed to sell him to the governor as possible replacement to pave way for their preferred candidates who reluctantly stepped down for
Udoh Ekpenyong before the advent of COVID-19 stalled PDP congresses in the state.
Another PDP chieftain tipped to replace Obong Moses Ekpo is Mr. Uduot Jack who is fast becoming the Political Leader of Etim Ekpo.
A twist in the sinister move is the alleged attempt to drag the Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem into the scheme.
The schemers’ ploy is to dangle such opportunity before the SSG and cajole him into grabbing it, an allegation one of the SSG’s aides was quick to dismiss as “mere fabrication and political hallucination from fake news makers”.
“My brother, you know that is not feasible; forget the saying that in politics everything is possible. The position of deputy governor is not a political appointment like that of SSG. So the two cannot be traded.
“Besides, that position is Annang slot and you don’t expect Dr Ekuwem, an Oron man to even dream of it. Be reminded that the SSG is a diplomat and thoroughly bred technocrat; he has conscience, he does not dabble into such politics. Whoever gave you such lead is a confusionist. It is mere fabrication and political hallucination from fake news makers. So let them count the SSG in their scheme,” he posited.
