The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested the Pastor of Land of Testimony Ministry, Oron, Mrs Mmayen Etim Odiuotip-39 years old and five others for child trafficking.
Other suspected syndicates also arrested are: Esther Effanga Esin – 41 years, of Eyo Abasi, Oron L.G.A, Rose Bassey Asuquo – 32 years, of Mbak Atai, Itu L.G.A, Ubong Stephen Akpan, a.k.a Doctor – 42 years of Mbak Atai, Itu L.G.A, Samuel William Idobo – 40 years of Ikot Asukpong, Ibiono Ibom L.G.A, Eno Peter – 40 years indigene of Ikot Andem Itam, Itu L.G.A.
A release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Fredrick Nudam and made available to Morenews revealed that the suspects were arrested following a credible intelligence that sometimes in June that “sometime in June, 2020, the kingpin of the syndicate, one Rose Bassey Asuquo Ekpenyong conspired with the aforementioned suspects and sold a stolen baby girl in 2018 to one Pastor Mmayen Etim Otu.
According to the release the said Pastor has confessed to the offence and opened a can of worms that the baby was bought for her sister, one Esther Effanga Esin.
Consequently, the Operatives swung into action and apprehended her while the baby was rescued.
The Police Command however called on members of the public to give useful information that will help in apprehension of other perpetrators of Child Theft/Trafficking in the society.
