-OYOM Sets Up Restructuring Committee
We’re Rebooting to Confront Oro’s Challenges, President
A civil liberty organization in Oro Ethnic Nationality, Oro Youth Movement (OYOM) has set-up a committee with the aim of restructuring it.
In a national executive council meeting on Saturday, November 21, 2020, the group inaugurated a five-man body whose duties also include “admission of intending members”, “nomination and screening of new excos”, “studying the existing constitution to determine whether or not to amend it” and “to plan for the inauguration of a new national executive council”.
The five-man committee is chaired by Comrade Ken Anso from Okobo while the Secretary is Comrade Peter Enyong from Mbo Other members include Comrade Anietie Michael from Urue Offong Oruko, Comrade Okon Nsunwara from Udung-Uko and Comrade Nicholas Etu from Oron.
While inaugurating the committee whose assignment he said must be completed in two weeks, the group’s president, Comrade Victor Mkpofor stated that “the restructuring was imperative, judging from a prolonged instability” which rocked the association.
Victor Mkpofor said the “long years of disagreement was over” as “agents of disunity were completely defeated” in what he called a “protracted litigation.”
Describing the sad moment as “the dark age of OYOM” in which it could not confront the numerous challenges of Oro, Mkpofor declared that “the years that the cankerworms and the caterpillars have eaten were over” and that it was “time to put on the whole armour of boldness and steadfastness that the association was known for.”
He said, “For a meaningful political and economic survival of Oro, we need Oro sons and daughters of proven integrity who are of unquestionable patriotism to stand in the gap.”
In his acceptance speech, the committee chairman, Comrade Ken Anso thanked the president for finding him and his colleagues fit for the task and gave the assurance that they shall conclude the assignment in record time.
He called on “youths who are willing to serve Oro Nation without compromise to step forward” as it was “time to get Jonah out of the boat.” He said members of the public can contact 08037940148, 08037976346 Or 0806 835 3671
for enquiries.
A fact check shows that some of the greatest achievements of OYOM, founded in 1998 were the role it played with the Oro National Forum (ONAF) in the launch of Oro Bill of Rights and its championing of the ‘famous’ Akinsoji Must Go Campaign.
