The Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun has commended the Akwa Ibom State Government over premium on agricultural investments.
Governor Abiodun made the remarks during the ongoing Nutritious Food Fair at the Ibom Hall, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The Governor who was represented by his Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina said that Governor Udom Emmanuel was doing greatly in the area of agricultural investments adding that he was at the Akwa Ibom Nutritious Food Fair 2020 to learn and possibly copy the Governor Udom’s Agricultural Investments strategy.
In his remarks, the Executive Director, Agricultural Investments – Pastor Umo Eno noted that the Akwa Ibom State Government is partnering with HarvestPlus to organize the Nutritious Food Fair to bring together Agric business people, link Agric business people in Akwa Ibom State to Agric business managers, companies, organizations, and equipment manufacturers.
He stated that such arrangement is to enhance direct linkages and networking for Akwa Ibom farmers.
Pastor Eno explained that the three days Agric Expo features training sessions especially for the women and youths on the various aspects of agric business to enable them have the benefit of the full value chain.
According to him, “it is not just planting, the real money is when you go through the whole value chain,” adding that some companies were on ground with exhibitions of how the value chain works.
He commended the Governor’s wife for championing the the Smart Woman initiative through her pet project – the Family Empowerment & Youth Reorientation Path Initiative (FEYREP) – and appealed for continous advocacy and support to the women through her different support groups in the state.
While launching the Smart Woman initiative, the Wife of the Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel noted that smart a child starts from the formative age adding that she was passionate about eliminating malnutrition in the state.
In her words, “I am here because it is a course I have been championing to eliminate malnutrition in the state. Thanks to our Governor who believes that we can grow what we eat. A woman must have something doing. We must go into farming, and very soon there will be food explosion in the state.
“Farming is not for the poor or the rich alone but for everybody. So go back to farming so that we can all eat smart, remain smart mother’s and have smart children.”
She therefore commended Harvest Plus for partnering the state to organize the Agric Expo, as as well the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet stressing that it is a remarkable event.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of award to the Wife of the Governor as ambassador for Nutritious Food by HarvestPlus.
