NUJ Election: How Nsa Gill emerged Chairman Cross River State Council
Comrade Nsa Gill of Cross River State Government House Correspondent Chapel has been elected Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Cross River State Council in a free, fair and credible election.
The election which took place on Saturday, 16th July 2022 at the Ernest Etim Bassey State Council Secretariat, Calabar was conducted in a peaceful and rancour free atmosphere.
The election was monitored and conducted by the National Vice President of the Union Zone F, Comrade Ukpaka Dokubo and Zonal Secretary, John Agese.
Declaring the winner, Comrade Ukpaka Dokubo noted that out of 148 registered members, 136 were accredited to vote.
Nsa Gill scored 76 votes to defeat Labour Ibor of the Nigeria Chronicle chapel and the former Secretary of the council who garnered 50 votes.
Solomon Azu garnered 64 votes to emerge the secretary of the state council while Judex Okoro of the Correspondent chapel scored 59 votes.
However, the Financial Secretary position was won by Comrade Mrs. Archibong Bassey of the NigerianTelevision Authority’s (NTA) chapel who scored 85 votes to defeat Veronica Ogar of Information Chapel who scored 41 votes.
Meanwhile, the position of Assistant Secretary and Treasurer were on opposed.
Earlier in his remarks, Comrade Ukpaka advised the contestants to see themselves as partners in progress and play the game by the rules and exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship. He also called on the losers to join hands together and build a vibrant council of emulation.
In his valedictory speech, the former state council chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Victor Udu who served the council for two terms of 6 years commended the visiting National leaders for conducting free and fair elections.
Comrade Udu commended the members for standing by him for the past 6 years, maintaining that their support leads to his success and appealed to members to render the same support to the new leadership of the union to enable them to succeed.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman of the council, Comrade Gill Nsa thanked the members for finding him worthy of the position and promised to be transparent and accountable in carrying out his mandate and to run an inclusive administration where every member would be proud of.
He said he will carry members and veterans along while introducing laudable policies that will charge every member to be more productive stressing that he will strive to maintain the ethical standard of journalism.
