NUJ: 70 Journalists receive welfare packages in Akwa Ibom
Barely four months after 32 journalists in Akwa Ibom State received various amounts of money under the welfare scheme instituted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, it was another glorious moment again, as the Union disbursed N1.475million, yesterday to 34 beneficiaries, to bring the total number so far, to 70.

The disbursement ceremony, which took place at the press centre, was the fourth since the implementation of the scheme began on Friday, August 2, 2019.
So far, the Union has disbursed N3.625milliion, to benefiting journalists under the three categories cover by the welfare scheme, which are bereavement, social and death.
Under death of member category, the family of a deceased journalist received N200,000, while 18 members got N50, 000, each as bereavement package.
Beneficiaries in the social category got N25,000.00, each.
In his remark, the state chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk, assured journalists of his commitment to the implementation of the welfare scheme throughout his tenure.
He commended members of the State Working Committee (SWC), chapel chairmen and secretaries as well as the Welfare Committee for their commitment to the implementation of the scheme.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Comrade Roseline Etukudo, lauded the state chairman for touching the lives of journalists in the state during their moments of grief or celebration through the welfare scheme implementation.
Under the scheme, members of the Union are required to contribute N500.00, each, when a journalist dies.
Loss of parent or spouse attracts N200.00 contribution by members, while N100.00 is for social activities.
