Nsit Atai in unhealthy political masquerading
According to Section 1(3) of the 1999 Constitution( as amended), ‘any law that is inconsistent with the provision of the Constitution is null and void to the extent of such inconsistency’. The same thing is applicable to state laws, or any law other law, rule or enactment that is inconsistent with the state’s law or edict is null and void to the extent of such inconsistency.
Interestingly, the Traditional Rulers’ Edict, CAP 134, Volume 6 of Akwa Ibom State divides Nsit Atai into five Traditional Clans cum political blocs namely: Afaha, Ibiaikot, Ibedu, Essien Itiaba and Ndisiak.
It is from these political divisions, sadly, emerged the very manipulative, sickening, hastily documented and poorly appended zoning report which canvassers of disjointed and senseless leadership see as an ill-fated opportunity.
It is interesting that all the blocs have taken their turns for the chairmanship slot in the following order:
(1) Otuekong Raphael Bassey – Essien Itiaba
(2) Rt. Hon. Asuquo Derby Udo – Ibedu
(3) Ibanga Bassey Akpan – Afaha
(4) Rt. Hon. Mark Esset – Ibiaikot and
(5) Rt. Hon. Emem Ibanga – Ndisiak
In the same manner, the above clans/ political blocs have benefited from the House of Assembly slot as follows:
(1) Hon. Inyang Ekpe – Afaha
(2) Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekpeyong ( Tempo) – Essien Itiaba
(3) Rr. Hon. Asuquo Derby Udo – Ibedu
(4) Hon. Sarah Elijah – Afaha
(5) Rt. Hon. Mark Esset -Ibiaikot.
Now, the only clan/ bloc remaining and whose turn it is to produce House of Assembly member in 2023 is Ndisiak. And it has to be Ndisiak for the sake of equity, fairness and justice.
But unfortunately, there has been an outbreak of some politically sick individuals who have started flaunting an unfair and imbalance zoning document which does not in any way reflect the true interest of the good people of Nsit Atai. This is, apparently, why nine out of the 16 people who were supposed to sign the document refused to append their signatures.
The most pertinent questions at the moment are: have other clans not taken their turns? Is Ndisiak not part of Nsit Atai? Don’t they have the right to take their own turn?
Even if the ill -fated zoning document were anything to go by, for instance, the State Edict, by its supremacy as a legal document and superiority over zoning document, overrides all standing agreements made by a few individuals of criminal minds.
There is no gainsaying therefore, that those who amplify a defected and improper zoning arrangement are those who want to either directly or indirectly benefit from it. Some of them have already struck an agreement, ill- conceived anyways, with their stooges on what should be their reward for supporting them to the detriment of Ndisiak people.
The most laughable play out in the whole of this scenario is the fact that those sponsored by the high and mighty cannot express themselves with simple English, while others have no tangible academic qualification to present other than the “zoning document”.
While some constituencies are clamouring for sound representation, some career politicians in Nsit Atai are unnecessarily scheming, working fruitlessly hard to install their stooges using incoherent zoning document as a yardstick. This is, unfortunately, the saddest narrative currently making the rounds in Nsit Atai.
At this point, therefore, the voice of equity, fairness and justice is calling on those selfish individuals in Nsit Atai to allow right- thinking prevail over their sloppy machinations. This will be in the interest of all.
