As Northern Governors’ Forum advocates censorship of social media
As the agitation for regional governance and restructuring continue, a governors from the North under the auspices of Northern Governors Forum has declared that Nicgeria’s unity is “non-negotiable” just as they vowed to keep Nigeria one and in divisive.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the northern governors forum meeting on Monday.
“The meeting endorse the indivisibility, indissolubility and oneness of the Nation,” Northern Governors declared.
The Northern Governors who claimed that the EndSARS protest was targetting at removing President Muhammedu Buhari who is from the North from office condemned the protests.
While calling for the regulation and censorship of the social media activities in Nigeria, the Northern Governors postulated that the “uncontrolled” nature of social media has “devastating” effect in the country.
This happens as the debate for the regulation of the social media is raging high after the social media has been accused of fueling the EndSARS crisis in Nigeria.
They also alleged that the social media is a threat to the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria as it is used to spread lies and fake news.
They also called on the authories to pay attention on the need to keep strict watch on the Federal Capital Territory to guide against unwarranted and destructives protests to safeguard critical assets of the Nation.
The Northern governors also resolves to support the Nigerian Police Force to serve the country better and calls for synergy and the strengthening of trust between the people and the Police.
The governors also expressed concern over the low level involvement of relevant of stakeholders in the implementation programmes of Government and called on the relevant Agencies to review implementation strategies to make for maximum impact and benefits.
The Northern Governors in the meeting rejected and condemned the “subversive” actions of the EndSARS protest and warned against any attempt or agitations and “other change-regime actions outside the ballot Box”
