NCWS appoints Essien Udim Council Chairman’s wife as patron
In recognition of her contributions to the development of women, the wife of the Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mrs Umoh Gabriel Tonyudoh has been installed as the Patron of National Council For Women Societies (NCWS) Essien Udim Chapter.
The installation took place during the investiture of female Council Chairmen and wives of Local Government Chairmen as patrons of the organisation on Wednesday, 4th August 2021 at the Women Development Centre, Uyo.
In her good will message, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Ini Adiakpan who congratulated the new patrons of the organisation lauded the NCWS for their resilience in Championing the cause of women in the society over the years.
The Commissioner charged the new patrons to use their positions in the society to ensure the protection of women’s right and also teach the young girls good virtues of decency, respect and loyalty to authorities.
She advised the women to adhere to COVID-19 preventive measures to protect themselves against the new wave of the virus (Delta Variant).
Speaking with newsmen, the Wife of Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mrs Umoh Gabriel Tonyudoh commended the State President of NCWS, Hon (Mrs) Alice Jeremiah George for her passion for the development of women in the society.
She restated her commitment towards the development of women and children in Essien Udim as she tasked young women on skill acquisition.
The event was also graced by other Distinguished women from Essien Udim including the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon Lady Emem Ekarika, the leader of Essien Udim Legislative Council, Hon Mary R. Charles, PDP Ex-officio member, Obonganwan Mfon Udoima, Chapter women leader, Hon. Rose Thompson, female councillors among others.
NCWS is an umbrella organisation for all women societies in Nigeria. It is an internationally recognised women’s organisation that forms part of the International Council of Women’s organisation that forms part of the International Council of Women (ICW).
