International Women’s Day: Essien Udim First Lady restates commitment to Women’s welfare
As the women across the globe continue basking in the euphoria of 2021 International Women’s Day Celebration, the Wife of the Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mrs Umoh Gabriel Tony Luke, has reassured women of the area of better life in her husband’s administration.
Mrs Luke urged the women to have faith in her husband’s administration to deliver on his campaign promises
The Chairman’s wife restated that women empowerment remains top priority of the administration and pledged to ensure that Essien Udim women are beneficiaries of the administration.
She called on Essien Udim women to join hands in the war against insecurity by cautioning their children to embrace peace and shun cultism and violent tendencies as no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of chaos.
She commeded the wife of the governor, Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel for her passion to improve the lots of women in the state and described her as a real source of motivation.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated every 8th of March and the theme of 2021 celebration was: “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.”
The theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Akwa Ibom State, the event was celebrated at Ibom Hall Grounds Uyo where women from the 31 local government areas attended including Essien Udim women.
The State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel was represented at the event by the state deputy governor, Mr Moses Ekpo.
The Wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel in her speech celebrated women’s resilience and determination to succeed.
She also encouraged them to cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit and challenge gender stereotypes while acknowledging that God created both men and women equal.
Other women of Essien Udim who also attended the event were the wife of the member representing Essien Udim State Constituency, Mrs Henrietta Esse G. Umoh, wife of the Commissioner for Trade Investment, Mrs Prince U. Akpabio, PDP Ex-officio member, Obonganwan Mfon Udoima, Vice Chairman of Council, Hon (Mrs) Emem Ekarika, PDP Chapter Women Leader, Hon Rose M. Thompson among other distinquished women stakeholders of the area.
The event also featured march past by the women and skills exhibition.
