Alleged Insecurity in Mkpat Enin along Ikot Ebak road diversion:
M/Enin Council Boss prevails upon road contractors to keep regular route partly opened
By Samuel Udoma
In a strategic response to the reported cases of insecurity experienced along the narrow road diversion around Ikot Ebak axis of the Ekparakwa-Ikot Abasi highway, the Executive Chairman, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon.(Prince) Anieokpon Eno Ekpo over the weekend had key discussions with the contractors handling the road maintenance project where he prevailed upon them to ensure that a part of the regular route remains open to commuters and road users to forestall the activities of criminals along the narrow diversion.
The Council Boss disclose that he had been briefed on a series of both petty and serious criminal activities carried out on unsuspecting road users and residents of the area by men of the underworld and informed that he had since ordered that security and surveillance be beefed up around that diversion strip.
He commiserated with families and persons who have borne the brunt of some dark experiences around the axis and assured that from hence, that will be a thing of the past, enjoining farmers and dwellers to remain vigilant but go about their normal activities without fear.
Hon. Ekpo further urged the contractors handling the road to expedite actions and ensure that in soonest possible time, the main route is open just in time before the heavy rains set in to smoothen travel for people plying that road.
The Ekparakwa-Ikot Abasi highway is a major route linking the state with the neighbouring Rivers State, Akwa Ibom State University and other key transit interests and a section of the road in Ikot Ebak, Mkpat Enin for sometime now had been closed for repair and maintenance works by CCECC.
