Insecurity: Akwa Ibom youths seek God’s intervention as NUJ calls for action by govt to maintain peace
Worried by incessant criminal attack perpetrated by criminals in Akwa Ibom State, youth leaders in Essien Udim LGA today, 28/3/2021 converged at Assemblies of God Church, Ukana Ikot Ntuen to seek God’s intervention.
The youths were led by the Chairman, Essien Udim Youths Caucus, Hon Aniefiok Edemekong and the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Council, Mr Raymond Ekpe.
Leading in the intercessory prayer, the Pastor in charge of Assemblies of God Church, Ukana Ikot Ntuen branch, Obongifreke Udom cried to God to intercede for peace on behalf of the people for peace to reign in the area.
The cleric who spoke on the theme, “The Lord Is My Refuge” admonished the people to embrace peace as the panacea to unity and progress and shun negative tendencies.
He commended the youth leaders for choosing to seek God’s face rather than resort to vengeance and reprisal attack, assuring that God will surely restore peace in the area.
Prayers were also offered for the growth and development of Essien Udim and Akwa Ibom state in general.
In his remarks, the Essien Udim youth caucus chairman, Hon. Aniefiok Christopher Edemekong, who is also the SA to the Governor Udom Emmanuel on Project Monitoring, thanked the church hiarachy for the opportunity to worship with them, he pleaded with the church faithful to continually pray for Essien Udim as hoodlums are making life unbearable for the residents.

He reiterated that the commissioner for Trade and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, House member, Barr. Esse Umoh, Council CHAIRMAN, Mr Anthony Luke and other leaders of Essien Udim LGA are behind the youths on this special solemn prayers.
He advised parents to monitor their children not to join bad gangs as the full weight of the law will soon be visited on those with criminal tendencies.
On his part, the PDP chapter youth leader, Comrade Raymond Ekpe expressed gratitude to the youth leaders for turning out enmasse to hand over Essien Udim to God, assured that peace of God will surely prevail.
He also thanked Prince Akpabio, Barr Esse Umoh and Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke for their supports and commitments.
Recall that Akwa Ibom State has of recent witnessed the resurgent of insecurity as hoodlums recently attack and burnt a police station, killed men of the police force, burnt vehicles and cart away rifles.
Recently, the congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists have issued a statement calling on the Akwa Ibom State Government to rise to the occasion of the new wave of insecurity in the state.
The communique jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary, NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council, Mr Amos Etuk and Dominic Akpan respectively at the end of the monthly congress of the union on Friday, 26/3/2021 expressed solidarity to the Nigeria Police for their gallantry and commitment to the peace and security of the people.
The Union however tasked the security agencies to be vigilant in ensuring that no criminal elements find Akwa Ibom a safe haven for criminal activities as they also condoled with the police force and families of the slained police men in the recent attack in the state.
