INEC began distribution of sensitive materials to LGAs in Cross River
In preparation for the Saturday Presidential and National Assembly elections across the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Cross River State has kick-started the distribution of sensitive materials to the 18 local government areas of the state.
The exercise began with the loading of BVAS machines into trucks at the INEC state headquarters, Calabar in the early hours of Wednesday.
Other sensitive materials kept at the state branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria were also about to be moved in that order with the BVAS to the local government areas as of the state at the time of filing this report.
The exercise was witnessed by the representatives of political parties and security agency officials, and Journalists.
Before the materials were distributed, the Resident Electoral Commissioner Prof. Gabriel Yomere, echoed the warning by security agencies that “no big man would be allowed to come out on election day with his orderly.” “This is to avoid any form of distraction and intimidation”
He said the issue of logistics has been taken care of, and that all was set for a hitch-free poll.
A representative of the state Commissioner of Police, ACP Kabiru Ibrahim said adequate preparations have been made to provide security throughout the election period. He, therefore, calls on every eligible voter to go out and exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation.
