Ikot Oku Ikono Flyover: Oku Ibom Ibibio, Akwa Ibom TRC commend Governor Emmanuel
Hailing Governor Udom Emmanuel the for constructing an ultramodern flyover at the Ikot Oku Ikono junction in Uyo, Traditional Rulers in Akwa Ibom State have labelled the structure as a “delightsome infrastructure,” noting that the “facility would ease transportation challenges like traffic congestion and accidents that had characterized the hitherto Ikot Oku Ikono Junction.”
The traditional rulers via the Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs and Oku Ibom of the Ibibios, HRM Ntenyin Solomon Daniel Etuk, said “the Flyover which connects Uyo -Abak-Itu- Etinan – Nsit Ibom and other adjoining local government areas, is a delightsome infrastructure.”
They also lauded the governor for completing and commissioning the project in spite of the fact that “the challenges of lockdown and economic depression which came up due to the outbreak of COVID -19 pandemic across the world in 2020 is yet to fully abate.”
The Chiefs recounted projects executed by the Governor to include roads, hospitals, schools, 21 storey building, Dakkada Secretariat, Infectious Disease and Control Centre, and further acknowledged that the “administration has built for the traditional institution, a monumental state-of-the-art Council of Chiefs Chambers with a unique residence for the Chairman of Council, located at Wellington Bassey Way End, Uyo, the State Capital.”
They further applauded the governor for the “clear leadership vision” in establishing Ibom Air, explaining that “through Ibom Air services, air transportation in and out of Akwa Ibom State and other operational routes, have been made easy.”
While asserting that the Ikot Oku Ikono flyover and other projects are manifest proofs that the governor has Akwa Ibom State at heart, the Chiefs appealed to the governor to facilitate the provision of a reliable Yacht and Ferry services along Akwa Ibom waterways to boost tourism and enable easy commercial transportation from Akwa Ibom State to neigbouring States and other countries.
They also in the press statement advised Akwa Ibom people to unite in love and be in support of a peaceful transition process so that Akwa Ibom State will continue to experience peace, tranquility and progress.
The Ikot Oku Ikono Flyover was commissioned by former Nigeria’s President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday, July 16, 2021.
