Ikot Ekpene SD: Rights group declares Barr Enoidem unfit for public office, calls for immediate arrest, prosecution
Immediate past National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, is in the eye of the storm following an agitation for his prosecution over alleged infractions bordering on alleged fraud, illegal possession of firearm and electoral offences.
The group, Our Rights Frontiers (ORF), in a press statement sent to newsmen, notified the public that a petition has already been sent to security agencies and anti-graft agencies to that effect.
ORF observed that “Barr Enoidem has over the years acted in a way and manner that is unbecoming of a legal practitioner by exhibiting gross betrayal of the ethics of accountability and transparency in roles thrust upon him.”
The group in the press statement which was signed by Chantel Eyo and Uyoata Hanson, Coordinator and Secretary, respectively, decried that his “excesses always jeopardize public interest, hence rob the teeming citizenry of their right to enjoy the dividends of democratic governance.”
They cited “the fallacious resuscitation of Peacock Paints Limited, the multi-billion Naira Ibom Tropicana Project, a couple of road contracts like the Ikot Abia Eyin road in Nsit Atai LGA,” saying “these were tasks assigned to be supervised by Barr Emmanuel Enoidem who was then serving as Commissioner in the Ministry of Special Duties.”
“For obvious reasons, we decline to detail how Enoidem rendered those projects incapacitated. We, however, wish to state that we have duly furnished relevant authorities with handy documents they should work on, the details are with security agencies, we are not beating around the bush,” ORF maintained.
Furthermore, Enoidem was said to have a reputation for violence and electioneering thuggery.
“All these are documented claims which we have done due diligence on. We are not forgetting his case of alleged possession of illegal firearms. Our claims are backed by facts. Security and anti-graft agencies should work on the details we have provided them.”
The group therefore declared “Enoidem, who is the National Coordinator of Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), unfit to occupy public office given the catalogue of incriminating offences hanging on his neck.”
They also call for his immediate arrest and prosecution.
Barr Enoidem is currently vying for the Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District seat, an aspiration which ORF says “is another attempt by him to be given an opportunity to display his ineptitude and flagrant abuse power and funds.”
“Anything he touches dies. Even as National Legal Adviser of the PDP, the party lost very many cases in court – those were not mere happenstances. PDP appeared clueless in identifying cases to pursue and ones to avoid, and how to even process those cases in court. It was as if PDP was chasing shadows. Barr Enoidem, despite his many years in legal practice, failed to properly galvanize the legal unit of his party. His tenure as Legal Adviser was unconvincing,” they stated.
