Ibom Vehicle Assembly plant of scam vehicle assembly plant
Six years ago, Akwa Ibom State Government said it is establishing a vehicle assembly plant in Ikot Ukap, Itu LGA.
Land was grabbed from residents and set aside for the scandals ridden project. Tall promises were made with regards to high level industrialization and employment opportunities that the assembly plant will bring about.
But, nothing significant has happened since the groundbreaking ceremony: Government has become evasive with regards to project status and Merkavin Automobile Technologies, the Israeli partner, is not reporting any progress.
Last year, Government woke from avoidable slumber, claiming that the prefabricated assembly plant and several employed Akwa Ibomites are ready to roll out many vehicles including transportation buses, military and fire fighting trucks.
So far, and true to nature, the Udom Emmanuel led Government has failed to roll out any kind of vehicle and the promise of over 1,000 employment opportunities has evaporated into thin air. Nobody is hearing a thing about that pie-in-the-sky vehicle assembly plant.
Akwa Ibom State Government was simply flying a kite, depriving Ikot Ukap residents of land use and lying to Akwa Ibomites about a project it has neither willingness nor capacity to complete.
