Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort debunks report on financial crisis
The management of Akwa Ibom State owned Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort refutes the malicious reports by some mischievous persons purportedly claiming the hotel is slipping into financial crisis amongst other speculations.
Reacting to the fictitious report, the management confidently reiterates the exceptionally strong results and commendable financial performance of the hotel since its assumption in October 2020. According to the General Manager, Charles Muia the performance is driven by a successful turnaround programme which has driven guest satisfaction indices up by over 80% through a focus on overall guest experience; specifically, food safety and quality, guest amenities, leisure and recreational activities, statewide travel and tours, and events staging and execution, not forgetting service quality. A combination of these factors have ensured that the hotel had its best business year on record in 2022.
Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort also prides itself in the professionalism, dedication and commitment of its workforce to ensuring a sustainable, viable entity, and as such adequately compensates its entire workforce in line with industry standards and best practices. This is further reaffirmed by management’s adoption of a fair compensation structure commensurate to the various employee cadres, and in line with hospitality industry best practices.
The management also re-iterates its commitment to train, mentor and develop the next crop of senior management personnel through its Management Development Programme, the first cohort of which graduated in May, 2022. This is as it continues to equip more Akwa Ibomites for employment opportunities and delivery of excellent hospitality services at other hotel brands within and outside Nigeria.
It is pertinent to mention, that the hotel’s management under the oversight of a credible board operates with strict corporate governance and compliance policies. Whilst the Board is very active in the discharge of its responsibilities, it however does not engage in any frivolous expenditure such as the alleged monthly withdrawal of N20million as sitting allowance neither does any influential politician or persons receive any of such purported sums from Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort.
Setting the record straight, the current management implemented a series of strategic upgrades of the hotel’s facilities beginning in July 2022 and has endeared the hotel to many as the destination for high caliber and state-held functions including the spectacular 35th State Anniversary banquet and the First Ladies of the Nigerian Governors’ Wives Forum Retreat 2022, amongst other high caliber functions. These upgrades are the very first since Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort’s establishment in 2007.
