Unyime Idem hails peaceful conduct of Akwa Ibom LG elections
The Member Representing Ukanafun/OrukAnam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Unyime Idem has expressed appreciation over the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Local Government Elections in Akwa Ibom State, noting that such disposition is healthy for democracy.
Idem made his feelings known while interacting with Newsmen after casting his vote in his polling unit at Usung Atiat Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area.
He said the peaceful ambience which dominated the process was an indication of the maturity and transparency of Akwa Ibom people in choosing their leaders.
Idem who is the Deputy chairman, House Committee on Communications noted that the third tier of government was set up to address challenges at the grassroots and bring dividends of democracy closer to the grassroots.
The Federal Lawmaker thanked the people of Usung Atiat in particular and the state in general for turning enmasse to cast their vote for leaders and expressed optimism the elected officers would justify the confidence repose in them through their performance .
The Lawmaker also lauded the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) and the security agencies on the positive role played during the election, which he said, strengthened democracy in the country.
“Congratulations to the people of Akwa Ibom State on a credible and peaceful local Government election. I thank the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) and the Nigerian security on the positive role they played in the election and commend their work in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
“I recognize the critical role that Gov. Udom Emmanuel played in promoting peace.
“We also thank our civil society partners for their invaluable work in upholding democracy and accountability in this election,” Hon Idem said.
