Guber 2023: Shedding the crocodile tears
Before now, major local newspapers were inundated with calls on the Governor of Akwa Ibom State to name his preferred successor. The media took the issues of succession as the only agenda they could set.
And like a fire in a haystack, every space, every organization and location where humans were found, wore a long look in endless wait for Governor Udom Emmanuel’s announcement of a successor he will hand over to next year.
Local and national issues like health, especially COVID-19 and HIV were driven to the back ends.
For example, last 1st December was the World AIDS Day, I was awed how activities marking the day were suppressed by the local media for euphoria on who succeeds Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Intriguingly, last week, a local tabloid came out with a screaming headline, wondering why the Governor was still keeping the public guessing on his preferred successor.
Today, the tabloid did not mention anything on the formal announcement of Pastor Umo Eno as the choice of, not only the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, but the overwhelming choice of the Akwa Ibom Stakeholders who converged at the Government Lodge that Sunday evening to present Pastor Umo Eno as their preferred candidate.
Information has it that even Pastor Umo Eno who came in to the lodge did not even know the gathering was for him. This explains his surprise as he fought hard against emotion amidst the who’s who in the affairs of the State of Akwa Ibom.
Ever since the announcement, which came just three days after the leading spiritual fathers of faith in Akwa Ibom State gathered to pray for peace and the choice of God for governorship in 2023, it’s like hell was really dealt a hard blow. Satan himself went wild looking for where to hide his ugly face, while his demons, out of fear of the ‘son of God’ ascending the throne, walked the streets naked, looking for whom to devour.
The goodnews is that the demons from hell will find none to devour, because, just as Prelate Prof. Isaiah Issong, the inventive national leader of the new army of the Fathers of Faith Forum; the Fathers In Faith for Good Governance, has stated: “Only the failure will disagree and waste his or her time in fighting Pastor Umo Eno whose divine choice, the heavens and the earth have sanctioned. Remember Christ’s last words on the Cross: “It is finished;” meaning it has been concluded.”
I agree no less with Prelate Prof. Isaiah Issong, 78, an eminent scholar and researcher on social administration and social civics.
He’s a man who has vigorously pursued the peace and development of Akwa Ibom State, ensuring a better spiritual space for the citizens to thrive. We should respect his voice.
Let me submit here that Pastor Umo Eno was not chosen by any man. He is simply the choice of God. If we we are on God’s side, we must support the choice of God, for our good.
Many on the streets truly do not know Pastor Umo Eno. He came from the streets; he has the street people at heart.
But this is not my focus now; it’s about people shedding the crocodile’s tears. These are people who do not know about the dynamics of choosing a leader. These are people who have tasted a soured meal from their preferred candidates, the cry for the love of lucres, not necessarily the love of the State.
Those who feel their candidates are super-qualified are making a mistake, as God chooses the unqualified and qualify him for the throne.
In democracy, no one person can decide the winner of any contest; it’s the majority! So why not wait for the primaries and actual elections!
Governor Udom Emmanuelhas only named his preferred choice, you can also name yours. It’s democracy!
Wipe your tears, because if you’re looking for someone who can deliver, it’s Pastor Umo Eno. If you’re looking for the governor of will identify with the streets, it’s Pastor Umo Eno. If you’re looking for someone who will pay school fees for your children, it’s Pastor Umo Eno. If you’re looking for someone who will build more factories for employment, it’s Pastor Umo Eno. If you’re looking for someone who will give you peace, it’s Pastor Umo Eno.
Weep no more!
