Governor Emmanuel tasks citizens on peace and security for sustainable development
Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excelleny, Mr Udom Emmanuel has tasked citizens and residents of the State to work towards maintaining the tenets of peace and security prevalent in the State as a prerequisite for sustainable development.
Governor Emmanuel made the call at the ongoing Two-Day Retreat on Community Leaders Orientation in Peace Building &Alternative Dispute Resolution in Akwa Ibom State holding at Eket facilitated by the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District, Senator Akon Eyakenyi.
Represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen, Governor Emmanuel lauded Senator Eyakenyi for being proactive in initiating the Retreat to discuss issues of Peace Building Security and Alternative Dispute Resolution, observing that, the current socio-political realities in Nigeria justify her effort as a timely and apt initiative.
Governor Emmanuel thanked Senator Eyakenyi for being responsive and close to her people and for vindicating the mandate freely given to her by the people, adding that, she is doing what she was voted to do.
The Governor expressed confidence that, the Retreat will help to sustain and consolidate peace and security, not only in the Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District but the entire State and Nation at large.
Earlier in her opening remarks, Distinguished Senator Eyakenyi said, the growing concern that, the COVID-19 pandemic has bay affected economic activities globally, and has induced hunger and hardship, coupled with the recently hijacked #EndSARS protests bg looters and arsonists, which further exposed the level of distrust between the security agencies and the public.
Eyakenyi said the Retreat was initiated given the need to address the already identified gaps to avert a repeat of the security breaches witnessed in recent times in the State and across the country.
Goodwill messages were given by former Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, former Senator representing Akwa a Ibom South, Her Excellency, Senator Helen Esuene, former Minister and representative for Eket Federal Constituency, Chief Nduese Essien, Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong among others.
The event which continues on Thursday, November 20 holding at Farlem Hotel, Eket, is attended by leaders f thought and prominent citizens from the District , top security officials, royal fathers, the Political class, women groups and youth Organizations.
