Gender sensitivity: Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Women score Essien Udim chairman high
Women under the auspices of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Women Forum have commended the Essien Udim Local Government Chairman, Mr. Anthony Luke for his contributions towards women’s development and empowerment.
The women, who made the commendation when they paid a thank-you visit to Mr. Anthony Luke in his office on Monday, 29th November 2021, scored the council chairman high on gender sensitivity.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the President, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Women Forum, Rt Hon. Mrs. Inibehe Silas described the Council helmsman as a “gender-friendly Chairman” and thanked him for carrying women along in his administration.
Mrs. Silas expressed gratitude to the Chairman particularly for hosting the women of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District during the recent empowerment program floated by the first lady, Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel and for contributing immensely toward the success of the event.
They also described Essien Udim Local Government Council as one of the cleanest in the state and pledged the unalloyed support of the women to the Chairman to achieve more.
In his reaction, the Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mr. Anthony Luke thanked the women for their solidarity and promised more empowerment and to continue to carry them along in his administration.
According to the Chairman, women played a critical role in enhancing development and building peace in the society, adding that such role and disposition explain why he gave them the opportunity to serve in different capacities in his administration.
He said: “I thank the women of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District for standing by me, for believing in me and for supporting my administration.
“I will continue to make you proud and I will continue to work with the women to move Essien Udim forward.
“My office is open for constructive criticism, advice, and ideas anytime and any day.”
It is worthy of note that Essien Udim is one of the local government areas in Akwa Ibom with the highest number of women in positions of authority including the vice-chairman of the council, the leader of the Legislature and three Councilors.
