Focus on Mkpat Enin: Councilors threaten Leader with impeachment
About nine out of fifteen serving Councillors in Mkpat Enin Legislative Council has passed votes of no confidence on their Leader, Mr Ebong Akpan, citing violation of oath of allegiance among other offenses as reasons.
The Councillors also issued a twenty four hour ultimatum, asking the embattle leader to tender his resignation letter to avoid impeachment proceedings.
Citing Order 39, Rule (1) of the Standing Order of the Local Government Legislative Council, they mentioned that the leader has acted inimical to the image of the Council, specifically for violation of oath of allegiance, divided loyalty, failure to carry out obligations, as well as making decisions that members feel detrimental.
The Letter of the No Confidence Votes which was made available to our news room on Monday, reads as this:
VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE PASSED ON HON. EBONG UFOT AKPAN, LEADER, MKPAT ENIN LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL ON THE 27TH DAY OF JUNE, 2021.
We the under listed Honorable Councilors in the Mkpat Enin Legislative Council after coming together to analyze our activities so far since inauguration do hereby pass a “vote of no confidence” on Hon. Ebong Ufot Akpan, the Leader, Mkpat Enin Legislative Council.
According to Order 39, Rule (1) of the Standing Order of the Local Government Legislative Council, the leader has acted inimical to the image of the Council. These acts include but not limited to the following: violation of oath of allegiance, divided loyalty, failure to carry out obligations, or make decisions that members feel detrimental, etc.
Flowing from the above points raised, we do hereby request that Hon. Ebong Ufot Akpan resigns as the Leader within twenty four hours (24hrs) to avoid any impeachment proceedings. This is to enable us put the Mkpat Enin Legislative Council in order.
