FEDPUKA Inaugurates New Students’ Union Exco
The Rector Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Dr. Uduak S. Ukekpe has charged the newly inaugurated Students’ Union Executives to study hard while discharging their duties in school as the Students’ Union position is not a guarantee for good grades from lecturers.
Dr. Ukekpe gave this charge during the 2023/2024 Students Union inauguration ceremony held at the 250 Capacity Lecture Hall at the Main Campus of the Polytechnic.
According to the Polytechnic boss, the main aim of the Union is to protect Students’ interests and to see to the progress of the institution but not at the detriment of their studies.
He expressed optimism about better Student representation as his administration has introduced the first-ever Students’ Representative Council into the institution.
” The management can not know the problems of all the Students hence, they have decided to introduce the SRC with the hope of using the same laid down principles to create the Students’ Judicial Council (SJC) in the next Students’ Union Elections,” he said.
Odudu Ndarake Udo was inaugurated as President, while Victoria Mmenyene Bassey was inaugurated as Vice President. Mfoniso Etem and Akinyemi Peace were inaugurated as Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
Others inaugurated into the Exco include, Janet Edem Paul as Treasurer, Uwhowho Evelyn as Director of Finance, Sibe Fidelis E. as Director of Information, Udoh Gideon as Director of Sports, Ofonmbuk Anthony as Director of Welfare and Victor N. Johnson as Director of Socials.
The high point of the event was the oath-taking administered by Barrister Albert Umoh and the presentation of the Certificate of Return to the Students by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Mercy Ebong.
Earlier, the Coordinator of Student Affairs, Engr. Keke O. Everest in his address praised the Students’ doggedness displayed in the recently conducted Students’ Union elections and extolled them for remaining peaceful throughout the exercise.
In a vote of thanks, the Secretary of, the Elections Committee, Mrs. Nkoyo Ikang, thanked everyone for their immense support which has birthed successful elections and inauguration. She lauded the Rector for the confidence reposed on the Elections Committee to do a good job.
