Federal Polytechnic Ukana set to commence IJMB programme
Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Akwa Ibom State is set to commence Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination Programme (IJMB)in the institution with the Rector Dr. Uduak Sunday Ukekpe describing the affiliation as a positive one that will increase access to University and Polytechnic education to Nigerian students.
Dr. Ukekpe made this statement while briefing the IJMB inspection team who were on a Preliminary IJMB Affiliation visit to the Polytechnic in the Science Laboratory Technology Conference room at the Main Campus of the institution.
The Polytechnic boss described the development as a step in the right direction and pledged to uphold the standards and integrity that IJMB is known for .
” As an institution we do not condole examination malprictice and we intend to handle IJMB as such
” We monitor our lecturers internally with bodies such as SERVICOM to ensure effective work rate, so be rest assured that we will maintain the standard of IJBM if we are successfully affiliated with the body” he said.
According to him , well equipped class rooms , workshops and qualified lecturers have been assigned to IJMB for effective running of the Programme
in the instuition with a promise to improve on them over time if the need arises.
Earlier, the team leader Prof. A. O. Oyewale stated that the purpose of the interaction was to see the state of the institution’s readiness to kick start the programme.
“IJMB is an A level examination similar to Cambridge A level examination powered by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and as such needs to be ran by the best hands” he said.
The National Coordinator, Prof. Haruna Aminu in his speech, gave a short history about IJMB explaining that IJMB has over 100 affiliate institutions across the country with the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as the Chairman of the Governing Board and Jamb Registrar a member the board .
He enumerated the mode of operation of IJMB and the responsibilities of the affiliated institutions to the body. He concluded his speech by admitting that he looks forward to working with Federal Polytechnic, Ukana.
In a vote of thanks, The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Dr. Okon J. Ekanem, thanked the IJMB team for honouring the institution’s application and expressed the institution’s readiness to work with them.
Other members of the IJMB team include: Prof. B. Abdullahi, Mal. Halliru Idris and Dr. Mary Akpan.
