Federal Polytechnic Ukana inaugurates students Union executives
The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Dr. Uduak Sunday Ukekpe says the welfare of the students remains the top priority of the institution stressing that Management will always make sure that the institution provides a serene and comfortable atmosphere for academic activities to thrive.
The Rector stated this during the inauguration of a new executives of the Students Union Government of the institution held weekend at the Annex Campus of the polytechnic.
According to Ukekpe,”In not too long a time, lectures will be taken at the Main Campus with all the necessary facilities for practicals available. We will ensure that buses will be made available to convey students from the Main Campus down to Annex Campus for their practicals pending on when all the equipment will be finally installed at the Main Campus. The welfare of our students tops the priority of the current management and we shall strive to improve on it, ” he said.
Dr. Ukekpe noted that the Polytechnic has already designated a space for the construction of Student Solidarity center as well as hostels at the Main Campus as added impetus towards students’ welfare.
He congratulated the newly inauguated executives and charged them to take their studies seriously while also discharging their duties, so that their aim of enrolling into the institution will not be defeated.
The Climax of the inauguration ceremony was the swearing in of the newly elected student Union Executives by Barrister Albert Umoh.
The Students’ Union Executive members sworn into office comprises of Asuabiat Ime Effiong as President, Nseobong Akpan Gabriel, Vice President, Blessed Nathaniel, Secretary, Ekpono-abasi Sampson, Assistant Secretary, Ekerette Udo as Director of Information, Solomon Ating, Director of Socials, Mina Tamuonobelema as Director of Welfare, David Uwem Friday, Director of Sports, while Mbouetidem David Ekpo as Treasurer.
The newly inaugurated President, Comrade Asuabiat Ime Effiong in his inaugual speech assured the students of a better deal and appreciated them for reposing their confidence in them.
Comrade Effiong appreciated the Rector, Management and staff for the premium they place on students.
He pleged that his executives and himself will corporate with the management of the institution to achieve success.
Earlier, the Deputy Rector who also doubles as the Dean of Programmes, Mr.Edet Elijah Etuk, congratulated the newly elected Students’ Union Executives and commended the Election Committee for conducting a free and fair elections that brought them into office.
He admonished them to be of good conduct ” The importance of the Students’ Union Government in every institution can never be over emphasised , so utilise this opportunity given to you well. I pray and wish you well as you take up this mantle of leadership from today” he said.
In a vote of thanks, the Coordinator Students’ Affairs ,Mr Everest keke, commended the Rector for his immense support to the students’body.
He also charged the newly inaugurated Students’ Union Executives to be disciplined and lead an exemplary life for other students to follow.
Other highlights of the event , were issuing of certificates to the Student Union Executives by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Mrs Mercy Ebong and the goodwill messages from the Registrar of the Polytechnic , Dr. Okon J. Ekanem who was ably represented by Comrade Elizabeth Uko, and good will messages from Chairmen of Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Senior Staff Association Of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP ) Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Chapter respectively.
