Fed Poly, Ukana Holds Capacity Building Workshop For Staff
… Rector emphasises need for continuous staff training
The Rector Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Dr. Uduak Sunday Ukekpe says he is focused on improving the staff performance by way of enhancing their abilities in order for them to function adequately and continue to stay relevant within the rapidly changing academic environment.
The Rector stated this while declaring open a 3 day capacity building workshop for staff of the institution Monday.
Represented by the Deputy Rector,Mr.Edet Elijah Etuk, the Rector said the training which is facilitated by SAMUF Educational Limited was expected to strengthen the skills, instincts, abilities, resources of staff needed to survive, adapt and thrive in a fast changing educational sector. In his words,
“This workshop, is geared towards enhancing staff motivation, job performance and skills which will ultimately lead to the growth of the institution and performance. And at the end of the workshop, certificates will be issued out based on attendance and performance. Therefore there is a zero tolerance for absentism for this three days that the workshop will be on” Ukekpe stated.
Speaking during the event, the Registrar, Dr. Okon J. Ekanem expressed his displeasure over staff attitude towards the previous capacity building exercise held in Polytechnic and charged staff to attach importance to this particular exercise as certificate gotten and attendance taken will be considered as one of the prerequisite for future promotions.
Dr. Okon J Ekanem extolled the magnanimity of the Rector for giving the staff this great opportunity to be enlightened and kept abreast with current information that will make them thrive in their everyday endeavours as staff. He also lauded the facilators, SAMUF Educational Limited for making themselves available once again while not leaving out staff but thanking them for embracing the idea of this workshop exercise with open arms.
In a remark, the Chief Executive Officer of SAMUF Educational Limited,Mr.Samuel Udom said the training was to bring staff up to speed with current realities in administration and academics and charge staff of the Polytechnic to take the workshop very seriously. He said the organization has put in place highly skilled and experienced resource persons to present papers during the workshop.
Also attendance were the Polytechnic Librarian Dr. Mrs Mercy Ebong, the Polytechnic Bursar, Mr Mark Titus Binwal, Ag. Director of Works, Engr. Imo Okoji, Deputy Registrar Academic Affairs,Mr.Jeremiah Akpabio, Cordiantors of various departments and other staff of the Polytechnic.
