Etim Ekpo: I want my works to be honourable, not me – Gideon Uwa Declares
The Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Gideon Uwa has declared that he wants to be known and addressed as ‘Gideon Uwa’ without the ‘Honourable’ title conventionally attached to the names of elected chairmen of council.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the solemn assembly held on Friday under the ‘aegis of Etim Ekpo Prays’ to thank God for the elections and pray for a smooth take-off of the new administration at the council secretariat, Utu Etim Ekpo, Uwa said that he wants his works to be honourable not him.
According him, “If we sit down and examine the entire process of the elections, you will come to terms that everything was orchestrated by God, that is why the leadership of Etim Ekpo saw reasons for us to gather here today to return all glory to Him. Even when some people were boastful of unleashing violence, their plans didn’t see the light of the day. I specially thank our leader, Emmanuel Enoidem SAN who has demonstrated every attribute of leadership to lead the people of Etim Ekpo to the right direction”.
“I want to make this clear and place it on record today that I wish to be known and addressed as Gideon Uwa, not Honourable Gideon Uwa. Many of you may ask why, this office is not about me, but the people of Etim Ekpo who I came prepared to serve. I do not want the nomenclature attached to my name, I want effective service delivery, I want the landscaping of this council secretariat, I want the empowerment of our youths and women and the many laudable projects we will embark on to be honourable, not me”, he added.
He further stressed that the solemn assembly which brought together political, religious, community leaders, leaders of thought and all concerned individuals to thank God for peace, unity and wisdom during the campaigns and electioneering process will “henceforth be held second Friday of every month to consecrate Etim Ekpo to God”.
Earlier, the Chairman Religious Affairs SubCommittee of the Campaign Organisation, Bishop (Dr). Samuel Akpan speaking under the Theme: Faithful God – Deut. 7:9(NET) said the people of Etim Ekpo were thankful to God for a peaceful and victorious Chairmanship and Councilorship Election.
