Essien Udim security situation: Security forces on the offensive as Army bombards hoodlums’ hideout
Residents of Ikot Akpan in Essien Udim Local Governmet Area and its environs are advised to stay indoors in their own interest following military offensive and bombardment of hoodlums’ hideout in the area in a bid to arrest the current security situation in Essien Udim.
Govvernments have deployed large contingent of military personnel and helicopter for aerial surveillance, Morenews.ng gathered.
Annonymous security source said heavy gun shots were heard in the area.
“Essien Udim: NAF plane on duty as Military moves in to flush out criminal elements. Never doubt the capability of our Armed Forces,” an Indigene of the area wrote on Foacebook.
After several hours of air strkes, the attack helicopter ran out of fuel and had to refuel and return to continue “Tactical Air Support” as military offensive continues to flush out criminal elements.

Military fighter aircraft, Nigerian Army and police personnel are currently in the Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, engaging the operatives of the Eastern Security Network in a gun battle.
Villagers have confirmed that attack helicopters have been hovering round the village apparently searching for the ESN operatives and other hoodlums who have been terrorising the area.
“The gunshots keep reverberating. Military and police personnel are trooping in large numbers and surveillance helicopters are flying in the air. I am still in my bedroom,” one of the residents told newsmen on Tuesday.
The military operations follows last Tuesday’s attack by unidentified gunmen that led the killing of a Chief Superintendent of Police, Benedict Okoh Ajide and other police officers in the Essien Udim Local Governmet Area.
