Essien Udim Council boss reads riot act to youths as Police arrest 9 suspected criminals
The Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mr Anthony Luke, has restated his determination make the area safe for all residents.
The Essien Udim council boss stated this while addressing some youths in the area on Friday, 22th January, 2021, stressing that his administration will not rest until all criminal elements are flushed out of the area
The council Chairman called on the youths to join hands with his administration to develop Essien Udim and make it a better place for all to live in and do business.
Luke, who commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for being proactive in the fight against crime, vowed to sustain the fight and consolidate on the governor’s effort in Essien Udim.
“The Governor has done well in the area of security in Akwa Ibom State, so, here in Essien Udim, we will not rest until we ensure that Essien Udim is crime-free,” Luke restated.
The Chairman warned those with criminal tendencies to leave Essien Essien or face arrest and prosecution.
Meanwhile, police in the area have arrested about nine suspected hoodlums who allegedly caused disturbances at Offiong-Etor Ikpe Annang Market.
The suspects, according to police, were arrested through the efforts of local vigilantes set up by the Council.
The criminal suspects were immediately transferred to the State Police Headquarters at Ikot Akpan Abia.
Police source also revealed that over 20 criminal suspects have been arrested in less than one month through the support and encouragement of the Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke
Recalled that, the Chairman, had donated two motorcycles to the police to help them in surveillance and for easy access of some parts of the area that are not motoroable.
The Chairman, who had vowed to cater for the welfare of the police officers in the area, had also donated water and toilet facilities to the Essien Udim Police Division
In another development, the Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council has inaugurated Essien Udim Haulage Committee with a charge on the committee members to exercise their duties responsibly and in accordance withthe law.
The Committee has Mr Oscar Sunday Akpan as Chairman while Mr Imo Friday Akpakah will serve as Vice Chairman.
