Essien Udim Council boss lauds Nigerian Army over security, integrity
The Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Counci, Mr Anthony Luke, has commended men and officers of the Nigerian Army manning Abia and Akwa Ibom boundary at Ikot Umo Essien, Odoro Ikot, for their untiring efforts to protect lives and property.
The Chairman, who made the commendation while playing host to the security agent led by Lt Adamu Umar in his office today, 9th February, 2021 promised to maintain the existing synergy between the Council, the boundary communities and the security agents.

The Chairman lamented the poor working condition of the soldiers at the border donated a generating plant to them to aid in water supply and also make life comfortable for them as they toil day and night to protect the border.
“I was not pleased with what I saw on ground when I visited your camp: that you have to go to Ikot Ekpene to hire generator to come and pump water before you have water to use is unfair. That is pathetic and I know that it is not fair for those whose responsibilities it is to ensure that the rest of us go about our legitimate businesses in peace tp operate under such dehumanizing condition,” the Chairman decried.
The council helmsman noted that the gesture is to complement the efforts of the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel through whose benevolence and the support of people of Essien Udim he became the executive chairman.
He stated that the governor has done well with security and therefore his duty is to complement the state governor’s efforts at the grassroots.
While lauding their efforts in fighting crimes in collaboration with other security agencies at Ikot Ekpene – Aba Road Highway which according to him was a den of criminals before now, the Essien Udim Chairman charged the soldiers to step up their strategies to beef up security in the area.
The Council boss tasked them to dislodge all criminal elements and touts parading themselves as government agents and extorting money from innocent commuters plying the road, noting that those working for government are licensed agents as government cannot work with touts.
“You have done well but I want you to do more. We are ready to support you with the necessary logistics to continue to protect our boundaries and territorial integrity. The governor of the state is also a security conscious person who ensures that Akwa Ibom people are well protected at all times, so, I can assure you of his support also,” the Chairman remarked.
Responding, the leader of the team, Leutenant Adamu Umar who expressed gratitude to the Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke, for his benevolence to the team assured him and Essien Udim people of adequate security of lives and property.
“I know you have been sleeping with one eye open but I assure you from now henceforth and with the support of the Council Chairman you will now sleep with your two eyes closed,” Lt Umar assured.
He also promised to intensify their routine patrol along Ikot Ekpene -Aba Road to ensure adequate protection as they will not relent in their efforts to flush out hoodlums and criminal elements terrorizing innocent Nigerians.
The Army Leader thanked the Council for the encouragement so far and solicited more support to make their job easy in the area.
