An unconfirmed report has it that two persons have been killed in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital as the peaceful EndSARS protest turned violent.
Morenews.ng gathered that the nationwide peaceful EndSARS protest was going on well when police officers deployed to the scene opened fire on the protesters.
Details of what triggered the shooting is not yet ascertained as the protest was said to be peaceful.
But some had claimed that while the EndSARS protest went on peacefully some hoodlums who are alleged to be secret cult members infiltrated the group and started blocking roads in Uyo metropolis obstructing free flow of traffic in the city centre before policemen were deployed to help clear traffic.
An eye-witness told Morenews.ng that the violence started when the men of the police force statrted firing on the air to disperse the protesters and the stray bullet hit a passer by who was not among the protesters.
According to him, it was the shooting that sparked the violence which led to vandalism and destruction of both public and private facilities.
Another report has it that one other person was allegedly killed along Abak Road Uyo after the crisis at Ibom Plaza.
Meanwile, soldiers have been deployed to Ibom Plaza to help restore law and order in the state.
Akwa Ibom youths joined their counterparts nationwide to protest against police brutality and extra Judicial killings in the country which has gone on in the past two week.
The youths are demanding total reform of the police force and an end to the brutal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force as well as an end to corruption and bad governance.
