End of Tenure: Federal Polytechnic Ukana Honours Rector
…as Dr Ukekpe bows out
The Management, Staff and students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State have celebrated the transformational strides of the out-going Rector of the institution, Dr Uduak Sunday Ukekpe.
Part of the event organised to mark the Rector’s end of tenure was a dinner and book presentation in honour of Dr. Ukekpe who according to them has transformed the institution in his 5 year tenure as Rector of the Polytechnic.
The event which was organised by the Public Relations Unit of the Polytechnic incollaboration with concerned Staff to celebrate the numerous achievements of the Rector was held at the AKMAG Hotel, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
Setting the tone for the event, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Manasseh Umoette highlighted some of Dr Ukekpe’s achievements to include the role he played in ensuring that staff who were wrongly placed received their correct placement with full payment of all emolument due to them.
In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board Dr. Uduak Obot who served as the chairman of the occasion , extolled the Rector sterling leadership qualities while describing his achievements as excellent.
In his words, “I believe in excellence and I love success so when i see success I recognized and identified with it. Dr. Ukekpe has set the pace for his successor and I pray that he or she will do even much better for the sake of the Students and the people of Akwa Ibom State”.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the book titled: Transformational Strides: A Memoir of Dr. Ukekpe’s Exceptional Feat as Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State, which was reviewed by the Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalist Comr. Amos Etuk and was followed by prayers for the Rector and his family done by the General Superintendent and Chairman of Conference Qua Iboe Church International, Rev. Ekpedeme Moffat Effanga.
Also, awards were presented to the Clan Head of Ukana West by the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Ekpene, His Royal Majesty, Okuku Okon Udo Ukut on behalf of the institution for the supportive role they played during Dr. Ukekpe’s tenure as Rector.
Responding, Dr Ukekpe, thanked the Public Relations Unit and everyone involved in the planning of the event even though it came to him as a surprise.
He expressed excitement about the honour, admitting it was a privilege to serve the Polytechnic.
He attributed his success as Rector to God Almighty and the cooperation of the Governing Council, Staff and Students of the Institution.
In his words “I am grateful to the management team and all who stood by me over the years. I won’t have achieved as much as i did if not for the support you gave me. You shared in my vision and that made the work easier”.
He expressed optimism that with the strategic plan he has put in place, the next administration should be able to build on it and do even much better than he has done.
The event also witnessed gift presentations to the Rector and goodwill messages from the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area , Clan Head of Ukana West, The General Superintendent of Qua Iboe Church and Chairman of Conference, President of the Student Union amongst other friends and well wishes of the Polytechnic.
