Emulate Christ – Oku Ibom implores Christians at Easter
The Christian fold has been enjoined to imbibe and exemplify the sacrificial life of Jesus Christ.
This was handed down in an Easter message by His Eminence, Ntenyin, Solomon Daniel Etuk, the Supreme Traditional Ruler of the Ibibios and Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs.
The monarch who is also the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State preached that “the mission of Jesus Christ on earth, culminating in his death and resurrection, demonstrates practically his love to save believers and humanity generally.”
“I urge leaders to be exemplary in their conducts by being honest, fair and committed in carrying out their responsibilities to their people, communities, states and nations, as Jesus Christ did without blemish,” he counselled.
He enjoined that “as faithful and leaders, we have to therefore reflect on the life of Jesus Christ.”
“We have to follow his footsteps by loving one another, being honest, selfless and dedicated in our responsibilities at all times,” he added.
Ntenyin Solomon maintained that the world can overcome vices and atrocious acts by imbibing the teachings of Jesus Christ.
He appealed to Christian faithful and leaders to eschew tendencies that does not promote peace, love and development.
He further counselled that “we cannot claim to be good Christians if we fail to practice His ways and what He taught us by doing same in our daily conduct and live in peace and love with one another so that the world can be a better place for us all.”
The monarch appealed to “communities, youths and groups to stop the wanton destruction of lives and property”, adding that “it is through love and togetherness that we can build our societies and states to desirable levels.”
He particularly sent best wishes to “the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and the entire people of the state and the world at large.”
