Mkpat Enin Peoples Assembly takes stand
Mkpat Enin Peoples Assembly, an umbrella socio-cultural cum political organization in Mkpat Enin has taken a clear stand on the zoning principles which the group said had existed in the senatorial district since the advent of democracy in 1999.
In a ten point communique issued at the end of the Furum’s meeting held on Tuesday March 8, 2022, at Johmiton hotel in Mkpat Enin, the assembly expressed worry over the attitude of some politicians in the senatorial district who, the group said are attempting to truncate the zoning arrangements which had been in existence over the past few decades following the rebirth of democracy in the country in 1999,
The communique called on the state governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel whom the group acknowledge as leader of the party in the state, to intervene in Eket Senatorial District zoning issue to ensure peace and sanity in the process. The group also called on the PDP household in the state with reference to the State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, the leadership of Maintain Peace Movement as well as political players in the senatorial district to rise in defense of truth and procedures by demonstrating goodwill to Ikot Abasi federal constituency. This the assembly believe will foster peace, oneness fairness and justice for all in the party.
The communique commended the state governor Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for his numerous intervention projects in Mkpat Enin especially in road construction, industrial development and electrification projects in the area which the assembly described as unprecedented.
The Assembly also applauded the state governor for appointing Prof. Eno Ibanga and Engr. Mmeyen Etukudoh into the mainstream of his government and for making them key players in his completion agenda.
The communique however appealed to the state governor to do more in Mkpat Enin especially in completing Mkpat Enin-Ikot Esang road and other road projects which are ongoing in the local government area.
The forum particularly appealed to the state governor to fulfill the promise he made to the paramount ruler of Mkpat Enin local government, HRM. Akwa Edidem Akoan Akpan Ekpene in respect of Ibekwe Akpan Nya -Ikot Enyieghe-road which design the forum said had already been made.
The assembly appealed to the governor to address the incessant security infractions witnessed in Ikot Ebak and Ikot Obio Nso axis of the local government area in recent time which the group said had claimed several lives and hampered the smooth flow of socio-economic activities in the area.
The communique reiterated Mkpat Enin people uninflinching support and commitment to the completion agenda of the state governor and called on citizens across the state to eschew all forms of violent conduct and play to the rules of the political game.
Several goodwill messages were received by the assembly. The messages applauded the Mkpat Enin apex socio-cultural body and all Mkpat Enin people for the re-emergence of Mkpat Enin Peoples Assembly and called for its sustainability to re-invigorate the dreams of its founding fathers.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders in Mkpat Enin project. Among those who were in the meeting include: Mr. Martyns Udo-Inyang, two former Vice Chairmen of Mkpat Enin Council, Dr. Imowo Udobia and Hon. Iboro Ekpo. Others include: Mr. Ubong Ekefre, and Lady Ekaette Usip, former Caretaker Committee Chairman and chairperson of Mkpat Enin Council respectively. Also in attendance were: Mr. Inwang Inyang. Barr. Imo Ben Udowa, one of the Senatorial aspirants, Dr. Ime Inyang, Akparawa Boniface Ekwere, Mr. Johnson Ata, SA to the governor on project supervision and Evang. Emmanuel Eshiet, to mention but a few.
The Forum was chaired by Chief (Barr.) Akan Afia while Mr. Akpabio Ufot- Akoabio served as protem Secretary to the forum.
Mkpat Enin Peoples Assembly is the oldest and highest Socio-cultural organization in Mkpat Enin. The group was founded in 1978 by the late erstwhile Chairman of Ibibio Elders Forum, Chief D. S. Udo-inyang with Chief A. A. Inoh.Its primarily goals were to act as the leading voice and unifying factor in Mkpat Enin.
