Edo 2020: Benin Agog As 15 Sporting Events Headline Day 1
The 20th National Sports Festival Edo 2020 will witness 15 sporting events on Sunday 4th April 2021 being Easter Sunday.
Combat Sports like Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Kickboxing and Boxing had their weigh in on Saturday 3rd April 2021 ahead of their event on Sunday.
Abula, a traditional sport and Handball will take center stage at the sports complex, University of Benin while Badminton holds at the Sports Hall, Etete Gymnasium.
Boxing will set it’s ring at the Oba Akenzuwa Cultural Center, Airport road same venue for Kokowa while Cricket will be at Adolor College, Ugbowo, Benin City.
Cycling will go down at Airport road, Aruogba, GRA, Benin/Ifon Road, Hockey will be at St. Maria Gorreti College, Dumez Road, while Judo will spread its mat at Indoor Hall, University of Benin.
Karate, Kickboxing, Squash, Swimming, Kung-Fu and Tennis will be at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
36 States including the FCT have registered for the National Sports Festival with 9,221 Athletes, 5,771 are Male while 3,450 are Female.
Medals will be competed for in 40 Sports as many athletes will be hoping to write their names in gold.
The Opening Ceremony comes up on Tuesday 6th April 2021 and will be graced by the Vice President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports Development Mr Sunday Dare Akin.
Meanwhile, the torch of unity after going round the 18 local governments in Edo State will arrive at the Main Bowl of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on April 6th where Governor Godwin Obaseki will put it up.
