Anthony Luke, popularly known as Aluko, is a household name in Akwa Ibom politics. Synonymous with political acumen and grassroots activism, Aluko embodies political loyalty and honesty. He is a formidable force in politics, both in Essien Udim Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom state at large.
As a public servant and politician, Dr. Luke has spent considerable time in the corridors of power in Essien Udim LGA, mastering the intricacies of grassroots politics. Starting humbly in his political career, Aluko has risen through the ranks from Personal Assistant to the Local Government Chairman, to Supervisor on several portfolios, Secretary of Council, Personal Assistant to the Governor, Executive Chairman of Council, and now the Transition Chairman of Essien Udim LGA. Dr. Luke’s ascent is marked by intelligence, charisma, and a profound commitment to public service. His political dexterity and unwavering loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have made significant contributions to the party’s successes in various elections. Born into a humble and disciplined family in Ikot Uko Etor, Okon in Essien Udim, Dr. Luke learned the values of honesty, hard work, and perseverance early on, earning the moniker “Mr. Integrity.” Driven by a desire to make a difference, he pursued education vigorously, achieving a PhD in International Relations and becoming the first PhD holder to serve as a Local Government Chairman in Essien Udim LGA.

Winning the local government elections by a landslide in 2020, Aluko has since transformed Essien Udim through significant infrastructural development. He constructed a world-class multi-purpose Traditional Rulers Secretariat, purchased seven official vehicles for the council, and paid bursaries to over 700 students. Additionally, he restored peace and security to an area previously plagued by criminal activities.
During his tenure, Dr. Luke fostered unity among stakeholders and ensured that the dividends of democracy reached rural areas by supporting small-scale businesses, empowering women, particularly widows, and aiding vulnerable groups through his wife, Dr. Umoh G. In December 2023, his exceptional performance as Executive Chairman led to his appointment as the Transition Committee Chairman of Essien Udim LGA by State Governor Pastor Umo Eno.
