Cross River: NUJ Congratulates Gov. Otu on his Supreme Court victory
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Cross River State Council has extended its congratulatory message to Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu following his Supreme Court victory. This victory comes as a result of the court upholding the governor’s election victory.
In a congratulatory message signed by the state chairman of the union, Comrade Nsa Gill, and secretary Comrade Solomon Azu, the NUJ praised the Supreme Court Justices for their commitment to upholding the sanctity of the votes of the people of Cross River State.
The union described the verdict as a victory for the people of Cross River State, also a victory for democracy and the rule of law, stressing that the ruling has brought hope to the people in the electoral process.
The NUJ also expressed its confidence in Governor Otu’s ability to fulfill his mandate and deliver on his promises to the people of the state. It urged the governor to prioritize good governance, accountability, and socio-economic development.
The NUJ further called on the governor to foster a harmonious relationship with the media, emphasizing the importance of the press in holding the government accountable and ensuring transparency and fairness in governance. The union also assured the governor of its support and cooperation in promoting good governance and development in Cross River State.
The statement reads in parts, “This decision has renewed the faith of Nigerians in the Judiciary as it has demonstrated that it is the last hope of the common man,” it noted.
“These victories resonate not only with the opposition parties but also with the citizens of Cross River State, who voted massively for Governor Bassey Otu.
“While commending the Supreme Court for the courageous decision handed down, which has vindicated INEC’s earlier position, It is imperative to refer to the decisions of the State Election Tribunal and Appeal Court who upheld his election.
“This victory is coming at a time when Cross Riverians have started enjoying the ‘Season of Sweetness’ and have embraced the ‘People First Agenda’ of the Governor which they rightly voted for.
The Supreme Court ruling was celebrated as a triumph by the NUJ, who saw it as a win for democracy and also for the people of Cross River State.
They also called on the gubernatorial candidate of the opposition PDP to accept the defeat and express readiness to collaborate with the Governor in constructing a resilient and prosperous state.
“Now that the election is over, It is time to put aside political differences and work harmoniously to ensure good governance which will be of benefit to all Cross Riverians,”
The NUJ therefore felicitated with the governor and prayed that the tenure would be fruitful and impactful.
